As Give Local DeKalb County 2016 has come to a close we would like to say thank you to the donors, Community Partners, Media Sponsors, supporting organizations, participating nonprofits, volunteers and staff. Philanthropy is alive and well in DeKalb County!
We are excited that over $300,000 was raised in online and in-person donations which will be proportionately matched by $103,750. This year Give Local DeKalb County raised more than double the amount from 2015!
Special thanks to the Douglas C. and Lynn M. Roberts Family Foundation for contributing an additional $50,000 to the proportional matching pool on May 3. We're very grateful for this generous mid-day donation that infused tremendous energy into the giving day.
We also would like to say thank you for your patience, words of encouragement, and continued support during Give Local. As many are aware, the host provider for our giving day platform experienced technology issues early in the day on May 3, causing the Give Local DeKalb County website to become slow and unresponsive. This was a widespread technology issue impacting many community foundations across the nation. As the day progressed it became evident that we needed to make some adjustments to allow donors to continue their support of nonprofits. This resulted in an extension of Give Local DeKalb County through Wednesday, May 4, at 5 p.m., as well as allowing for mailed donations to be made (postmarked by May 4), and extended hours for in-person donations at the Community Foundation.
Linked here for your review is an update from Give Local America providing additional details on the technical issue that disrupted a nationwide event. While we, along with our donors and nonprofits, were frustrated with this obstacle, we continue toward our vision to be a philanthropic leader through partnering with others to build strong communities in DeKalb County.
We currently are receiving mailed donations, manually reconciling donation amounts, and coordinating with donors and nonprofits. Please check back here regularly for the most up-to-date donation totals.
We live in a great community. Thank you for giving of your time, your treasure, and your talent.
